lily emke
this week was intense to say the least. my little niece lily emke (emke is my real name) past away a few hours before she was born on sunday. her death was no surprise since the doctors detected her fatal illness early on in the pregnancy, but no information can prepare you for a death of an infant.
she was around 4 lbs and beautiful. her funeral was yesterday afternoon. she is in heaven now happy, healthy and beautiful. may she rest in peace.

have a nice weekend :)
it's friday!!! i am not doing anything really exciting this weekend. it's lent at the moment so there are attempts at cutting out food groups :P. hasn't gone completely according plan. i'm kind of wishing i was in vancouver because of the olympics, but of course, i am happy visiting my brother here. i just sent in uni. and college application this week, so deciding whether to do a year of college in canada first or start university in holland right away is what is on my mind these days! it is very exciting and a little stressful. hope you all have a nice weekend as well!! x- shalom

à ce moment
"à ce moment" i have reintroduced the french language into my daily life... well at least i have just begun. i bought a french grammar book in paris last summer so that i could keep my french up. i haven't even opened it since then until today. it was fun reading and writing in french again.
as well, musically, i am really into florence + the machine, phoenix and nick drake, if you wanted some inspiration. :)

have a wonderful weekend!
i'm still with my brother harold. it's been a lot of fun and craziness the past week in a half (with six kids and a pregnant wife in the house), but this weekend is definately going to NUTS, and i mean that in a good way of course. their family friends (who also have 6 kids) are coming to stay for the weekend. 11 kids, 1 baby, and 5 adults all under one roof! should be grand!!

the selfish giant
this children's book by oscar wilde is a beautiful story but i particularly like this edition of the selfish giant from bloombury children's classics because the art is so gorgeous! here are the last few lines for this touching story:
"Downstairs ran the Giant in great joy, and out into the garden. He hastened across the grass, and came near to the child. And when he came quite close his face grew red with anger, and he said, "Who hath dared to wound thee?" For on the palms of the child's hands were the prints of two nails, and the prints of two nails were on the little feet.
"Who hath dared to wound thee?" cried the Giant; "tell me, that I may take my big sword and slay him."
"Nay!" answered the child; "but these are the wounds of Love."
"Who art thou?" said the Giant, and a strange awe fell on him, and he knelt before the little child.
And the child smiled on the Giant, and said to him, "You let me play once in your garden, to-day you shall come with me to my garden, which is Paradise."
And when the children ran in that afternoon, they found the Giant lying dead under the tree, all covered with white blossoms."
